[Music] in the city of Jerusalem in the spring of the Year 29 the Streets between the Roman Governor's Palace and the hill of golgatha were crowded with people in a ferment of excitement little did they realize that they were witnessing the events that were part of God's plan for man's salvation [Music] false [Music] crucify crucify [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] get him [Music] off it's no use he hasn't the strength my son my son why Lord why must this happen to you you pick up the cross I want no more delay take up the cross women of Jerusalem do not weep for me weep for yourselves and your children stand back stand back everybody back [Applause] [Music] among those who watched with heavy hearts were two secret followers of Jesus Joseph of arthea and Nicodemus members of the ruling Council of the temple are you going to the hill Nicodemus yes I feel I will want to be there the master will suffer great Agony today a word from him and he could be free but he chooses to suffer more and more he looks like the one he claimed to be Joseph the things that are happening today seems strangely unreal it's almost as though though I knew they would happen I felt that too come stop with me at my house I want to look at [Music] something it is good to get away from the noise and the turmoil yes so give us a moment of rest Joseph as you so well know our prophets for told of many things that would happen to our nation and that a messiah would come to free our people from their bonds I first met Jesus over two years ago he was speaking to the people and I went at night to talk with him alone you had great courage had the council known he said at that time that as Moses had lifted up the serpent on the pole in the wilderness so too must the son of man be lifted up that whoever believes in him shall have eternal life do you think the crucifixion of Jesus Jesus could mean that it could well be listen he is despised and rejected of men a man owes sorrows and acquainted with grief and we hid as it were our faces from him the words of the prophet Isaiah a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief could be the master is who he said he is the promised Messiah after all Jesus is now a man alone he was betrayed by one whom he had loved and treated as a friend and not one of those he loved came forward to defend him what else does the prophet say surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities the testment of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed can it be what do you make of it Nicodemus perhaps we shall find the answer on [Music] galath [Music] come he is the king of Israel if that Soul let him come down from the cross and we will believe him [Music] now you should be more respectful this man is our King the sign above his head tells us so father forgive them for they know not what they do he speaks to his father if he is the Son of God let his father save [Applause] yourself are you not the Christ save yourself and us [Music] do you not fear God since you were under the same sentence of condemnation we're getting what we deserve but this man has done nothing [Music] wrong Lord remember me when you come into your kingdom verily I say unto thee today shalt thou be with me in Paradise so he goes to paradise and takes this thief with him there is a king indeed I'm a longer can the Lord endure this it's been 3 hours now woman Behold thy son Behold thy mother [Music] [Music] I don't like the feel of this it's only the middle of the day why should the sky be so dark not natural the men are getting restless and so is the crowd I don't expect any trouble from this Rabel they're frightened my God my God why hast Thou forsaken me God is not his Spirit back to his father I knew then he was sent from God yes only the Son of God could have died like that the prophecy of Isaiah come true word for word those words keep going through my mind we hid as it were our faces from him we were afraid to be seen with the master openly afraid indeed but he loved us he loved us to the end my heart almost broke when he prayed father forgive them in some strange way I knew the words of the prophet Isaiah that you read this morning were being fulfilled right there before our eyes he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with with his stripes we are healed Nicodemus my friend we have one final duty of love to perform I want to place the body of Jesus in the new Tomb in my garden but how do you I will go to ponus Pilot I've had some association with him ask permission to take the body of Jesus from the cross before the Sabbath begins I will help you in whatever way I can but we must hurry for the sun will soon set and the Sabbath will begin pilate the Roman Governor had granted Joseph of ARA's request Joseph and Nicodemus and several of the faithful women had placed the body of Jesus in the new Tomb in Joseph's garden and had closed the entrance that had been done on Friday evening and now on Sunday morning come warm Yourself by the fire oh this is a duty I could have done without doesn't make sense to me guarding a tomb I don't like it any better than you do the high priest demanded that pilot post a guard what are they afraid of Sergeant and why do they have the tomb sealed they were afraid that this man's followers would come and take the body from the tomb men claimed that some prophecy had come true what prophecy this man said he would come out of the Tomb on the the third day this is the beginning of the third day don't tell me you believe that have you ever seen a dead man come alive and even if he did he could never move that stone almost Dawn our relief will be here soon [Music] look the Doom the tomb [Music] I just thought of something what how we get in the stone in front of the opening is too heavy for us oh the stone I hadn't thought about that perhaps we can find some of Joseph's garders they will help us the tomb it's open they've taken the Lord away I must tell Peter and [Music] John do not be afraid I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified he is not here for he is risen even as he said see the place where the Lord lay then go and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead and that he goes before you into Galilee there you shall see him as he told you [Music] all hail Be not Afraid go and tell my brethren to go to Galilee there they will see [Music] me Mary Mary what's the matter you're the Lord's tomb is empty we don't know where they take it him the tomb empty how how do you know I just come from there the stone has been rolled away the Lord's tomb is empty it's empty how can that be let us go [Music] [Music] Peter it is true the Lord has risen he is not here [Music] woman why are you weeping because they have taken away my Lord and I do not know where they have laid him [Music] woman why are you weeping whom do you seek sir if you have carried him away tell me where you have played him and I will take him away Mary Master do not touch me for I have not yet ascended to the father but go to my brethren and say to them I am ascending to my father and your father to my God and your God [Music] [Applause] [Music] I tell you it's true he walked with us and he talked with us and you say all this took place on the road to Emmas this very evening did we did not know him at first even though he explained to us everything the scriptures have to tell us about the Messiah Peter and I have seen the empty tomb and so have some of the women more than that I have seen the Risen Lord myself as I have told you why is that difficult to believe Phillip what do you think thus I don't know what to think I believe everything our friends from amas have told us why do you say that only last week Jesus told us that he would be persecuted and crucified and that he would arrive rise again on the third day and he has told us this evening that the scriptures have said these things and many more about the Christ and that now they've all been fulfilled which means there can be no doubt Jesus is the Christ it seems so strange if he is risen why does he speak of these things on a country road and not with us it seems strange to me but we know the tomb is empty but why would the master go to a m besides Peter saw him too but the women could have imagined things well whose voice was it they heard he said he would rise again peace be unto you it's the master why are you trouble and why do doubts arise in your minds look at my hands and feet for it is I myself touch me and see for a spirit does not have Flesh and Bones as you see I have we believe Master we know now that you have risen from the dead this is what I told you when I was still with you that everything that is written about me in the law of Moses and in the Psalms and in the prophets must be fulfilled will you stay with us now Lord as I told you before a little while and you will not see me and then a little while and you will see me because I go to my father but Lord we cannot live without you because I live you shall live also do not forget the words I spoke I am the resurrection and the life he that believeth in me though he were dead yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die what shall we do when you are no longer with us you will never be without me as my father sent me even so send I you you ought to be Witnesses of me and ought to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins in my name we will teach about you as long as we live and now receive the Holy Spirit who will guide you into all truth if you forgive the sins of any they are forgiven if you retain the sins of any they are retained peace be with you my peace PE I give unto you [Music]
