Description: Polish director Andrzej Wajda uses the French Revolution as a metaphor for the contemporary upheavals of his homeland. When Danton learns that Robespierre is urging the Committee of Public Safety to execute citizens en masse, he returns to Paris from the French countryside. Set in 1793, during the last two months of Danton's life, the film centers on the conflicts between him and Robespierre for control of France's revolutionary politics.
