Description: The relation of Crete to trade routes and centres of the ancient world is considered. The history of Crete is briefly traced, indicating the various empires which at times have occupied the island. These include: the Macedonian empire, the Roman empire, the Byzantine empire, the Saracens, the Venetians, the Ottoman empire, Greece and the German military occupation.
