Two French sisters, Sister Margaret and Sister Scholastica, come to the small New England town of Bethlehem to build a children's hospital. Sister Margaret explains that during the war she was in charge of a hospital in Normandy when it became a potential target during a military campaign. The Sisters acquire for $5,000 a three-month option on a former witch-hazel bottling plant opposite the Rossi property for use as a temporary shelter to stage the construction of the hospital.
