Children Make Movies (1961)

the kids wanted to make movies they see movies all the time they see them in their homes they see them at school I showed them experimental films they wanted to know all about them how they were made why they were made what they were for how how they run how the projector runs so I they made wanted their own I brought him some uh a whole role of leader and we rolled it out on pingpong tables and I gave each child a straight pen it's a bit difficult medium to work with the pin are just regular sewing pin straight pin and they're very tiny and hard to hold but I I was quite amazed at how quickly they were able to use them they first their first uh attempts were mainly just sort of scratching off scratching around on the film to make sure that they were getting through the Emulsion and then they would hold it up to the light and see what they had done then they took the inks these were we use f the felt tip pins the so-called magic markers and and went over their scratches and when held up to the light or to a film projector's lamp produces very beautiful transparent colors which can be very easily controlled [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Music] n e [Music] [Music] the [Music] you're right now to the top come on this is great now we can really build this thing up after they made the scratch film they wanted to try a real one photographed one well they worked out a story and now they're acting it out okay come on you got it on okay here comes this yeah but it's not even oh worry about that later come on this side going how about that side oh that's how [Music] finished p in good come on got it you got him oh we got more bricks come on let's fin over big one hand another block no put it right there don't come on let build this Lenny what are you doing that fors I shut up [Music] like making it all ready to drop the right here I said don't more easily care already this the one F it's going to fall what [Music] [Applause] [Music] all it's shaking watch out it's battling don't drop it now watch out it's put the FL more no more no more hey don't fight come on don't mess up help me three [Music] [Music] m [Music] [Music] [Music] all
