CDT - South San Juan Mountains, CO - July 2021

back at it cdt at coombre's pass thanks to my old hiking buddy ponch and her crew for bringing me up here and that's where i'm going into the rain [Music] so welcome to colorado already feeling that elevation nice rainy day supposed to clear up in a couple hours we'll see how it goes [Music] so [Music] i think about tree line [Music] had an interesting night last night heard a sheep rolled in nearby anyway followed fairly quickly by a pack of dogs and i thought were sheep dogs but they were barking like crazy uh my camping partner for the night bushwhack uh said that one of them came right up to his tent in the night so these were not sheep dogs these were like roaming wild dogs feral dogs and they were barking like crazy we seem to have avoided them this morning but it meant not going back and getting a bit more water which i had planned to do so got this climb coming up and hopefully i've got enough water [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so so [Music] so so [Music] so [Music] so campsite night two at trail lake i did not get as far as i wanted to today uh i'm not sure exactly how far i got it yet but i wanted to go fit i wanted to go at least 20 miles but i made it about 15. i felt like crap today uh same old stomach issues about the middle of the day i managed to drive heave a little bit and that made me feel a little better uh enough to knock out part of my second climb for the day um but then in a little while i felt like crap again and i stopped to get some water and drank a whole liter and promptly puked it all back up or most of it anyway and felt a little bit better but then the thunder heads were rolling in and i was starting to hear thunder and seeing some lightning and i decided just to only go a little further before going over the next pass uh because you never know where these thunderstorms are gonna end up so i stopped a lot earlier than i normally would it's about 6 15 right now we have like two hours of daylight left which to me seems like a waste i would i had enough time to get to where i was going uh i just didn't have the energy and i wasn't uh sure about the thunderheart situation i still might get rained on tonight too so at least i've got all my stuff set up all right i hope that i can figure out how to make my stomach feel better tomorrow so that i can just hike happily or as happily as possible and make some miles it's so [Music] [Music] so [Music] good morning on day three i was debating whether to bail out all last night and this morning because i just i'm feeling like crap but [Music] i decided to press on we'll see what happens [Music] all right i'm at this trail junction cdt is over there this is the green canyon verde trail something like that i think i'm gonna pull the plug i'm just feeling like crap and this is downhill to a trailhead i'll figure out how to get out here and i'm i'm sure i'm sure this uh this route will be plenty scenic but i just gotta get out of here and feel my crap well that cow pie looked like a rock and i stepped right on it and i almost slid banana peel style on my back but unfortunately this time i caught myself [Music] so [Music] so i'm getting close to the end well sort of close maybe three months or so of my bailout trail which turned out to be kind of a mixed bag mostly used by cows it's basically a mud track with tons of blow downs not really maintained actually this lower part of it is working out okay uh but in the upper reaches it took me a while as a hell and i just puked again a little while back but i ran into a nice couple that are camping out here and know the area so they uh advised me on what's up ahead and the trail is basically clear so this goes out to some kind of dirt road but they said i should be able to get a hitch on fairly easy down to the highway 17 i think where i can hopefully hit you into chama so we'll see how that works out all right almost at the end of my little bailout trail here it hasn't been too bad this last half but i still feel like crap so i'm ready to be done walking we'll see if i can get a hitch i have no idea how easy that's going to [Music] be [Music] so [Music] well i managed to get a hitch from that remote trail head down to highway 17 and now i'm at red bear right there trying to get a hitch into chama and uh not too many people are going that way it seems but uh i guess we'll keep trying [Music] so [Music] you
