the news parade nearly a quarter of a century after the great world war that was to end all wars foreign Nations Once More menaced by the Terrors of War by greed by desire for [Music] conquest and so again today Legions overseas are Marching to destruction America's Legions too March again but now forward ever forward in a mighty pageant of patriotism and PE PE California's blue skies smile down upon America's legionnaires the Golden State Hardy veterans 1938 hosts proudly swing into line by the thousands the resounding bands and spirit of drum cores Marchers past by the cheering crowd a blending of gay and serious emotions [Music] here in the home of Showmanship the Legionnaire stage the greatest show the West has ever seen legionnaires from the mother state of presidents Ohio's Heroes gallantly swinging along to the pulse quickening tunes of a smart girl [Music] band San Francisco's large delegation is led by well- drilled fire of its Guardians of the [Music] law here's plenty of synovation Michigan surely puts on the heat [Music] from the great Metropolis on the lake come hundreds heading the delegations of one of the nation's bigger States glad that next year Chicago will welcome the legion the long man band is with us again he makes every [Music] show from the Far West come dancing Indians recalling the pioneering days and covered wagons reminiscent of the settling and development of many [Music] states gorgeous floats symbolic of the sections from which they come Slide by with Tableau that tell stories of the South the North the East and the West Iowa's Legionnaire C of their soldiers their pretty girls and their cornstalks judging from the turnout this year's will be our record One spotted through the parade are many features that amuse The Spectators with their fun up she goes around she goes and down she goes and up She Goes [Music] Again 3,000 miles from Broadway 400 New York police and firemen are cheered to an echo as they proudly lead the colorful turnout from the Empire State [Music] the high spot of the parade is the quaint models of the little bo cars that carried 40 men or eight horses up to the line in those far off days on the Western Front drum course strike the Marshall note and Quicken the heartbeat of Marchers and Spectators alike with a thrilling Cadence to which the parade swings along hundreds from New England all the way across the land to pay homage to the great occasion the Boston delegation is picturesque led by its likable mayor toin overhead the bombing planes of the army Roar a welcome to the marching lines below the American Legion on parade is America on Parade as it swings along the wide Avenues of Los Angeles under California's friendly Sun [Music] Colorado Legionnaire appropriately dressed as Cowboys of the Plains the big Keystone stage is well represented large delegations from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh lead the way [Music] they represent many men who bravely fought in every one of this nation's [Music] Wars as we might expect the boys from the Northwest March in the war Bonnets of Indian chiefs St Paul brought real music with them and its drum core will long be remembered the Vigor of Youth gives to the parade a promise for tomorrow [Music] the parade enters the memorial coliseum in a blaze of glory colorful files of men and women marching to the bead of drums and the call of bugles and the mased colors are patriotically saluted as they pass a stirring heartwarming spectacle of throbbing hearts and aching [Music] feet and when Night Comes then is the glory the inspiration and the magnificence of this memorable occasion most impressive under the glare of a myriad of lights and dazzling flares the convention in Los Angeles becomes history these men marched yesterday they march today and will march on through the years as ambassadors of Peace in bold contrast with menacing flames of Destruction in other lands here burn Friendly Fires of Peace as the legion's 1938 pageant of patriotism comes to its thrilling end forward Legionnaire holds of all foreign is Defenders of americanism
