Complete Record: Follows the career of John Smith (through reenactments), whose influence and leadership contributed to the establishment of the first permanent English colony at Jamestown in 1607. Traces the events in England which preceded the colonists' voyage to Virginia, and shows the natural and human obstacles faced by Smith in his efforts to launch the settlement. Explains how Captain Smith held the colony together during times of starvation, disease, Indian attacks and internal dissension. While the English investors of the project ordered him to find the lost colonies of Sir Raleigh, search out the Northwest passage to the Indies and locate treasure, it was his intent to build a colony that would survive. In an effort to increase food and goods for his men, Smith explored and mapped Virginia as he searched for trade. Tells how Smith was saved from death by the Indian princess, Pocahontas. Explains how he contributed to the understanding of the land and served as an example of leadership for the colonists of America.
