Calder Hall: how a thermal reactor works

Description: Report to Geneva on the progress of Britain’s first nuclear power station, Calder Hall (close to Windscale Atomic Factory, Cumberland), July 1955. Describes the construction of the piles and the reactor. The film covers the various stages from the beginning of work on the preparation of the site in April 1953 to the summer of 1955 when the power station was three-quarters completed.
