Description: Episode of Series “History of the Motion Picture”. This is an edited version of the 1922 silent classic “Blood and Sand”, a romantic tragedy about Juan Gallarde, an aspiring bullfighter (Rudolph Valentino), married to his loving childhood sweetheart Carmen (Lila Lee). However, as his fame rises as a matador, so does his hot Spanish blood, and he succumbs to the passionate embraces of the sultry Dona Sol (Nita Naldi). Based on the book “Sangre y Arena” by Vincente Blasco Ibanez and directed by Fred Niblo. This film is intended for students of cinema studies and is part of The History of Motion Picture series. A running commentary is provided throughout the film.
