[Music] a golden anniversary demands some sort of recognition and we have made a movie as part of our celebration the paneer Corporation is now in its second half century as a recognized leader in the than Paper Tags to mark them tags are always getting lost think it's a big jump from delivering babies to delivering steel it isn't lots of things look alike on the outside they aren't alike on the inside so we Mark the outside so that we can tell at a glance what's on the inside everything but alloy steel that is you see what I mean our friend here couldn't deliver because he lost the identity of his product the same thing happens to Steel babies peas steel they all need positive identification can you tell them apart not by looking at them one is 4140 the other's 2330 how do I know I have the tags off them a lot of people spend a lot of time trying to figure out a way to Mark steel we know a lot of people have worked on the problem everyone does it in a different way it seems as though we all decided our way was best and to heck with what the other guy was doing we did agree on one thing the best way to Mark a bar of alloy steel was to do it up with paint but we all like different colors as you can see it got so bad we made several attempts at standard color codes didn't work everyone clung desperately to his own system this is a pretty poor way to identify a product as expensive and important as alloy steel the trouble with steel is that it all looks alike it might be 4140 or 1020 it might be analed normalized or heat treated you can't feel it and tell you can't taste it and tell you can't smell it and tell there ought to be a better way and there is a simple cheap efficient way birth marking what is birth marking birth marking is a continuous ink printing five simple facts on sheet steel tube or bar stock first a mill symbol to tell where the steel was made second our warehouse name this is good advertising third the specification number this will simplify stocking and assure the customer that he got what he ordered fourth condition identity this will simplify filling orders and help the customer in his application of the stock fifth the Heat number this is the birth certificate of birthmarked Steel a birthmarked heat number will eliminate expensive Laboratory Testing due to loss of identity it will stop expensive duplication of physical and chemical test reports it will simplify stocking in the warehouse and for our customers it will eliminate color marking paper tagging and stamping one more thing we've talked to the government about this it's reasonable to believe they will relinquish present requirements for forwarding of duplicate chemical test reports if we can demonstrate a foolproof system of stock control wouldn't continuous ink printing birth marking be the answer if we s our customer steel marked like this they could stop color coding anyone anytime at any place would be able to look at a piece of Steel tell what it is and where it came from we can't do that now birth marking will improve customer relations the name of the warehouse is impressed on the customer this is good selling birth marking is good selling it looks as though for some time to come we'll be doing a lot of business with the government directly or indirectly the government is our biggest customer the defense order is a big part of our business right now birth marking is good selling with the government now with nondefense industry later birth marking will make money for the warehouse it will cut costs and increase profits birth marking is Good Housekeeping Mill receival will go into stock quickly permanently insured against lost identity we can forget confusing color coding and perishable Paper Tags so we get our stock mixed simple if it's birth marked just sort it out who cares if that paint is pink or Peach if the stock picker can read the stock itself will tell him what it is he doesn't have to worry about the cutor charts bin tags or stock tags birth markings will make our deliveries stick a twoot section or a 10 ton load will be quickly easily identified Paper Tags get lost get ruined with oil paint Fades probably buy more government requirements for continuous ink printed birthmark steel are increasing some warehouses are complying in crude and expensive ways why not do it the simple way birth marking scrap is costly waste to the warehouse to the customer to the National economy steel is precious in critical Supply and expensive we can't afford to waste it not only from the standpoint of dollars but because we need every bit of Steel we can produce scrap is caused by lost identity in the warehouse and in the customer plant birth marking will reduce scrap make more tanks more planes more guns for fewer dollars how can we do it like this simple isn't it this machine birth marks it does the job quickly efficiently and permanently the machine is small compact inexpensive just watch it for a minute [Music] it will Mark stock at the rate of 300 ft per minute inks have been developed that will print legibly and permanently on greasy stock it will handle tube a bar from a/4 in to 6 and 3/4 in od it will also print on octagon hex square or flat bars it will print on extruded shapes up to 6 in wide even those with recessions or channels up to an inch and 3/4 in depth and 3/4 of an inch in width it's a simple easy job to change numbers when marking different kinds of stock machines like this are in operation today and are manufactured by the paneer Corporation Pittsburgh this is a simple solution to a problem as complex as the marking of Steel this is birth marking there are so many ramifications to this steel marking problem that we can't begin to cover them here we've tried identification the same old paint the same waste due to Lost identity and that same old costly scrap bin we saw this in the warehouse and here it is again the beautiful part of all this is the solution there's one good answer to the problem of marking steel and it's the same for all types and uses of Steel that answer is birth marking if it's birth marked it just can't get lost here's our shop again but there have been some changes made now it's stocked with birthmarked steel easy to handle easy to store easy to use this stock is like money in the bank every bit of it can be converted into money-making Parts each part it makes will be less expensive because we've reduced overhead due to excessive handling and lost identity there's a new note of efficiency around here here we're using all those short ends that used to fill the scrap barrel and by the way the scrap Barrel seems to have vanished well we won't miss it the material it used to swallow is now helping pay the overhead birthmark stock has eliminated a loss and created a profit and that's a neat trick we haven't mentioned time as yet but it's easy to see that we're going to save lots of it we don't have to bother to paint or tag our cut stock it goes back into the R simply and easily when it's needed again we only have to be able to read to find it we've done away with paints stencils tags lab reports
