Description: Episode of Series “Basic Metalwork”. This film describes the entire process of forging metal, emphasising the importance of a clean forge to obtain clean forgings. Describes the preparation of the fire; the structure of the anvil; the use of tongs. Illustrates the following fundamental processes: drawing down; upsetting; the making of bends; the eye and change of section. Also describes intricate operations for decorative iron-work, including the scroll in all of which the various forms of hammer serve as the principal tools.
