Barbara Shawcroft- Artist, 1977, Original (part 1 of 3)

Duration: 10:00

Year Published: 197719761979

Complete Record: Footage by Connie Beeson silent There are two rolls in this canister. Each is about 500ft. The roll with leader: There is some footage of the installation of a bright yellow-orange rope sculpture in an atrium at the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco. Shawcroft works on the sculpture as well as others. There is a quick image of an outdoor sculpture, then very underexposed footage that is not very identifiable, but looks to be in some industrial setting. There is a scene of cars, outside. Then we see pieces of the sculpture, wrapped in plastic, as they are loaded onto trucks. Part of this last footage has a magnetic sound strip. The other roll, with no leader: At the start, there is very underexposed footage of spinning wheels and ropes which are sometimes visible. There are images inside of a large studio with Shawcroft and others standing together. Then we see Shawcroft and an assistant working on the yellow-orange sculpture in the studio, looping rope and applying glue. We see those two and a man sitting in big metal hoops that hang from the ceiling. Then we see men moving giant spools, some with the rope visible, around.
