Description: One of a series of orientation films released in the "Fighting Man" series, this film is a fragmentary version of "Baptism of Fire" and only shows the last 10 minutes of the film. "Baptism of Fire" was a multi-award winning indoctrination film from 1943 which presented a stream-of-consciousness viewpoint of a soldier in combat. The film presents a newly trained soldier in his first combat foray, and follows his mental, emotional and physical experiences. As he moves from the rear area through the front lines and sees combat, and returns to a safe area, his ordeal is described in detail -- with the objective being that seeing this will assist troops placed in a similar situation. This orientation film was described in official texts as an example of "countermotivation" indoctrination, helping to promote proper attitudes and reactions to combat.
