You fellows have run into me just as I have come in from a horse back ride and I haven't even had a chance to wash the horse off my hands, you've asked me what I think is the most important question on the national level in this campaign. Unquestionably, it is the United States foreign policy. The present national Democratic administration has spent more money in the last five years than all presidents of the United States put together from the beginning of the presidency of George Washington to the end of the second administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. And despite the fact that there's been the most gigantic expenditure of money in the history of the world in these five years, we still didn't spend enough money to have 10 regular Army divisions fully equipped at the outbreak of the Korean War. What we need at Washington is some more no men some men who will not say yes continuously, to a Democratic policy that has led to disaster in the international field. The other day, I heard a Republican candidate say, look at the shape the Democrats have gotten the country into, and frankly, that's about the only true and accurate statement that I've heard any Republican candidate make in this election, because indeed, America is in great shape today. Sixty two and a half million or more people employed with the highest wages that has ever been paid to them. As to the national issues, I don't think there's any doubt that the average Pennsylvania Republican running for office and that certainly includes the candidate for the Senate and my opponent, who is the candidate for governor, that they are isolationists under the skin. For example, my opponent in a speech in Atlantic City last June said we couldn't much longer go on pouring money down the rat hole of Europe. This is the time that we must complete a plan that will make it perfectly clear to all the peoples we represent and also to any who plot against us that we are organizing, training and equipping forces that can successfully resist aggression in any form for my own country. I can say that we are wholeheartedly supporting a program for our mutual defense. We are increasing our defense budget. We are adding to our armed forces. We are producing weapons and distributing them and constantly increasing quantities to the armed forces of your countries.
