Description: Part 1: The development of atomic theory through the nineteenth century is charted (with actors taking the roles of Dalton, Faraday, etc). Lord Rutherford is filmed briefly summing up the state of knowledge at the turn of the century. Part 2: Next discusses the cathode ray, the electron, the cloud chamber and its uses, the movement of ions, and the X-ray.
