Description: Explores the relationship between the artist and his patron. Shows the problems facing contemporary artists and the opportunities offered by institutional and industrial sponsors, the modern successors to wealthy private patrons. Painters and sculptors featured in this film include John Piper, Keith Vaughan, Patrick Heron, Ridrigo Moynihan, Evor Hitchens, Reg Butler, Clifford Ellis, J.M.W. Turner, Jacob Epstein and Henry Moore. The narrator is the well-known art critic Basil Taylor; the film includes scenes at the Slade School, the Bath Academy, the Tate Gallery, and other centres of art in Britain.
