Examines the accompanying new energy and forms in Viennese building and painting. Reviews the emergence in Paris of the "Fauves," Picasso, and Cubism. Discusses Kandinsky and others who experimented with color abstraction. Explains in Part II that modernism also engendered abstract and surreal art. Presents Villa Savoy by Le Corbusier, and Wright's architecture as examples. Includes Dada's nihilism as a response to the devastation of World War I and discusses Freudian influence exhibited in the works of the surrealists Dali, Magritte, and Miro. Closed Captioned.
