in the beginning god created the heaven and the earth he divided the light from the darkness and he made the sun to ruin the day and the seasons then god dried the land and he made the oceans the lakes and the rivers to the north of the americas emerged the vast land of quebec strewn with a million lakes and rivers adorned by the laurentians and the appalachians and forked by one of the waterways soon every creature that moved the animals on the earth the fish in the waters and the wind fowl in the air filled this promised land god saw everything that he had made and behold it was good then he created summer [Applause] maine from the orient and others still from france who built houses and planted their seed to be warmed by the sun for the countless tourists now visiting this country the quebecois charm and hospitality whatever the season exude the warmth of summer foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] oh wow [Music] wow [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Music] i find it's extraordinary and i came to celebrate my 85th birthday [Music] [Music] it's great what i've seen them great [Music] [Music] i like the feeling of being in a foreign country and being so close to home at the same time i feel it's very french it's special it's so special uh well i've always i've always enjoyed the people quebec sounded exciting because it was a different kind of atmosphere it was french rather than english [Music] we enjoyed the atmosphere so much oh well there's a world of difference of course nicer easier going than a lot of the rat race that we come from we didn't notice but one bridge do you have more than one bridge four atmosphere closest place to come that's a really different world than home quebec is very very pretty and very quaint yeah the restaurant down the street there straight ball [Music] modern cosmopolitan montreal is the center of quebec sports business and cultural activities canada's largest city is also the largest french-speaking city in the world after paris [Music] less than 10 generations ago quebec city though well fortified fell at the hands of general wolf polluting the end of the french empire in north america the 60 000 french settlers do remain in the colony clinging stubbornly to their traditions have become more than six million they have given themselves a flag and steered their country towards tremendous industrial growth well we spent our honeymoon here in amid mementos of their glorious past the quebecois have put 15 million acres of land under cultivation harnessed massive hydroelectric reserves and tapped huge mining and forest resources ancient quebec still survives bearing witness to this fantastic development foreign [Music] montreal whose original settlement dating back to 1642 has been carefully preserved roots spread out to the four corners of the realm of summer it's a little bit of europe in north america it's very much like france and it's supposed to be the most historical portion of canada this is like living in the class and it's nice gym so quebecois i've achieved a marriage of love with nature and every member of the family has joined in the celebration the parks and the forests the farmlands the towns and the cities the lakes and the rivers and not least quebec's past century-old houses ancient flower mills covered bridges thrown over rivers like muffs over the hands of chili grandmothers the names kamuraska names quilted in the history of a people whose journey looms larger and shines brighter than [Music] [Music] [Music] on [Music] [Music] [Music] wow [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] huh [Music] hey [Applause] [Music] wow okay rabbits [Music] you
