Famous places visited include the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, Washington, D.C., the Old North Church in Boston, and Independence Hall in Philadelphia. [Music] la our country the United States of America what would it be like to travel it from coast to coast 3,000 miles more than 200 million people imagine you start in the beautiful city of San Francisco on the West [Music] Coast [Music] Spanish people were the first settlers of the West and Americans of Spanish descent still live here imagine you can see our country's Western m mountains as the Pioneers did like the men who came Westward hoping to become rich to find gold nowadays Machinery is used to mine [Music] gold many towns where the gold miners once lived are empty and deserted other people who came later built ranches farms Industries in our country's [Music] West [Music] America the natural wonders of the [Music] West the Grand Canyon Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park and some of the people who live in the west Indians Cattlemen a land that doesn't stop at the ocean Hawaii our Island state a land that reaches northward to Alaska our northernmost state our country's newest [Music] Frontier Alaskan boys and girls going to school like all American boys and girls [Music] do imagine traveling across the country Eastward into the Central States Rich Farmland busy cities historic Forts and settlements out of the past the home abraam Lincoln left when he became president America a great manufacturing nation and a country of problems too air [Music] pollution traffic jams slums [Music] problems that all of us must someday help [Music] solve imagine leaving the cities travel past the farms and forests of our [Music] country travel through the South where Americans grow warm weather crops cotton sorghum [Music] peanuts [Music] oranges once farming was the most important way to make a living in the South they were large plantations owned by wealthy families but America is a land of change today while many Southerners still Farm others work in [Music] factories imagine traveling into the eastern part of our [Music] country the East where long ago settlers from Europe built [Music] Mills [Music] factories in the East you see reminders of colonial days forts where Americans defended our land against those who would take it from us the old North Church in Boston where two lanterns were placed a signal in the Revolutionary [Music] War battlefields where the war was fought Independence Hall in Philadelphia where the leaders of our country signed the Declaration of Independence making us a free people the Liberty Bell that rang when the United States of America became a new nation led by Great Men George Washington Thomas Jefferson and thousands of other Heroes the soldiers who fought to start a new country maybe those Americans would be proud to see the East today our Industries our cities our government by and for the people our elected representatives in Congress our people at work and at [Music] play people trying to solve the problems of our land this beautiful land the United States of America our country
