History has been presented from many points of view: political, military, social, cultural. Rarely has it been considered as the history of the daily activities of the average citizen. Yet life is both cause and consequence of the "bigger" history. In its study of life during Thomas Jefferson's Presidency, {Had You Lived Then} answers such questions as: How did the average man warm his house? Wash? Where did he shop and what did he buy? How did he travel? These and other topics are the subject of this unusual motion picture in which artwork and live action combine to present a vivid portrait of everyday life in the early 19th century.
