day a letter of her own subject application for position as Airline Hostess qualifications well briefly they add up to this I've wanted to be a Hostess since I was 18 I'm 22 now single with 2 years of college and business training I'm 5'4 and weigh 115 lb I'm enclosing a snapshot not too good I'm afraid but the latest I have Mary's picture and letter make a good impression on the chief Hostess but she isn't qualified yet the airline sends her a list of schools where she can be trained and so one month later Mary stands in front of the McConnell School in Minneapolis on on the threshold of a new career and scared to the teeth I've given up a good job apartment friends and this isn't exactly what I'd call a brass band welcome well can't turn back now they didn't they're the ones who made it it then a letter comes after graduation report for assignment as Hostess we I got the job graduation day the end of 8 weeks of tough demanding study Mary's class now receives its diplomas congratulations Mary you've done very well here thank you Mrs McConnell thank you very much two weeks later another ceremony Mary gets her coveted wings at Laria field New York then with the other new hostesses she proudly stands first inspection in her spanking new uniform then my first flight constellation West I walked to the ship with the crew Bill Edwards Jimmy Duke Bob Donovan and Laura Draper they'd been kidding me in the flight dispatch room said passengers could spot a new Hostess a mile away and would probably take my head off oh gosh I was scared those passengers look like a Thundering Herd coming out better get that charm ready baby by golly it works what nice people that's right Mary and you're off to a good start it took a lot of time a lot of effort and a lot of worrying but at long last Mary Elizabeth Drake Airline Hostess is on her way so long Mary keep them smiling [Music]
