Against Wind and Tide: A Cuban Odyssey

Documents the migration of Cuban refugees into the United States beginning in April, 1980, after Fidel Castro allowed Cubans to leave from the port of Mariel. Follows the saga of individual Cubans from their arrival in Key West, through their "processing" and the months they spent searching for sponsors or family--a necessity in order to leave the refugee camps. Raises questions about U.S. immigration policies by visually contrasting the Cubans' arrival in Key West with that of other, earlier immigrants.
