Abstraction

Combines an interview with Frank Stella with archival footage of Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollack, and Barnett Newman to provide an overview of abstraction in art. Delves into the roots and "meanings" of Western abstraction in landscape painting in an underlying "essence" of reality that exists beyond appearance. Includes scenes filmed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and at the Rothko Chapel in Houston.
