One of the most ambitious projects undertaken by Warners in the 1930's, this production is the only sound film by Max Reinhardt who made the film with his disciple, William Dieterle. This adaptation of Shakespeare's play is characterized by sumptuous sets, soft photography and lighting designed to produce a romantic, magical quality.
