Description: Dr. John Abbott arrives in Westport with his son after World War I. He delivers a healthy baby, Jean (Anne Shirley), but the mother dies, and the doctor adopts the child. He tries to convince the town leaders of the need for a hospital, but they refuse to consider it. Abbott is finally recognized for his humanitarian work by the community. He dies peacefully in his sleep.
