Founded by UCLA alumnus Eric Nakamura, Giant Robot magazine (1994–2011) began simply as a vehicle to write about the stuff he liked. Steeped in Nakamura’s DIY, punk rock ethic with an eclectic focus on alternative Asian and Asian American culture, Giant Robot quickly attracted a like-minded readership. The magazine’s spirit lives on at the Giant Robot retail store and the GR2 art gallery on Sawtelle Blvd. in Los Angeles.
