Description: This silent black-and-white home movie from the 1940s or early 1950s, captures scenes related to the extensive U.S. military logistics and cargo operations in and around Seoul either during the Korean War or possibly immediately after World War II, when the U.S. occupied southern Korea. The film shows various vessels transporting soldiers and supplies, including shots of the USS General W. A. Mann (AP-112) and a voyage past Gibraltar to the Mediterranean. Two large whaleboats (00:08). A cargo ship at sea (00:19). Onboard a transport vessel, a large number of U.S. soldiers (00:37) are seen. A sampan or junk sailing boat (00:48). Two men onboard the cargo ship (00:56). Other boats sailing nearby (01:01). USS LST-897, a former Landing Ship, Tank (LST) is shown. This vessel was decommissioned in 1946. (01:09). Passengers including military dependents are seen disembarking (01:17). Additional vessels arrive, carrying numerous soldiers and dependents (01:35). Cargo is loaded or unloaded in cargo nets (01:47). A small boat, piloted by a Korean local, carries five U.S. soldiers (02:17). Footage of another junk or sampan, vessels and boats sailing nearby (02:25). Scenes of Koreans and U.S. personnel in a chaotic area, possibly choked with refugees (or just a busy road?) (02:53). At (3:12) a 1937 Dodge car is freed from the mud using a rope. Docked barges and other vessels in port (03:25). At 3:33 the troop transport USS General W.A. Mann is shown. Possibly aboard the Mann, two uniformed officers stand on a sailing ship alongside a woman playing the accordion (04:17). A woman sits in a sun chair reading (04:27). Scenic views of the ocean with cliffs in the background (04:31), probably off the coast of Spain and approaching Gibraltar. Two men aboard the sailing ship enjoy the view (05:55). Two other men onboard playfully joke around with each other (06:05). More scenic views of the ocean with cliffs in the background (06:19). At (6:54) a lighthouse is seen along the caost. At (7:27) the film shows the large water catchment system at Gibraltar. Dolphins swim alongside the vessel (07:45). A Stinson L-5 Sentinel liaison aircraft makes a very close pass (07:56). Footage from the vessel shows a seaside town, location unknown (08:03). U.S. personnel aboard a PT boat (patrol torpedo boat) (08:29). Another flyby of a Stinson L-5 Sentinel aircraft (08:53). A PT boat (09:12).
