Description: This silent 35mm film, which was recently donated by Periscope Film to the Library of Congress, shows some of the events that took place an at air show on October 10-11, 1910 in St. Louis, Missouri. It was on the 11th that President Theodore Roosevelt, who was in town participating in the Missouri State Republican Party's campaign, became the first U.S. president to fly in an airplane. Roosevelt flew in a Wright Company Model B plane piloted by Arch Hoxsey, a member of the Wright exhibition team. Roosevelt was accompanied by Herbert S. Hadley, Governor of Missouri and two men who appear to be Henry W. Kiel, Mayor of St. Louis, and Sheriff Louis Nolte. Roosevelt is seen in the footage in his car at the 8:50 mark.
