Flahertys 'Man of Aran' geht es beim Kurzfilm 'Haie am Netz' (1955) von Rolf-Dieter (auch Rolf-Dietrich) Nath vor allem um die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Meer, das Wagnis der Fischer und speziell den Haifischfang bei Achill Island (später auch in Heinrich Bölls 'Irland und seine Kinder' thematisiert), an der irischen Nordwestküste. Das Hauptinteresse Naths, der bereits vor dem Krieg mit Kurzfilmen und während des Krieges mit Beiträgen zu Deutschen Wochenschauen an die Öffentlichkeit trat, war in Irland, wie er dem irischen Außenministerium mitteilte, die Natur: 'We want nature - untouched nature. Something we no longer have in our overpopulated country'. Im gleichen Jahr erschienen zwei weitere Kurzfilme Naths, 'Nebel über Donegal' und 'Wo die Wege enden', wo ebenso die irische Atlantikküste gezeigt wird. Beide waren freigegeben für Zuschauer ab sechs Jahre und erhielten ebenfalls die Bewertung 'Prädikat: wertvoll'. Besondere Verbreitung fanden diese Filme dank ihrer Verwendung als Vorfilme zu damals populären Kinofilmen. As with Robert J. Flaherty's 'Man of Aran', the short film 'Haie am Netz' (1955) by Rolf-Dieter (also Rolf-Dietrich) Nath is primarily about the confrontation with the sea, the fishermen's venture and especially the shark fishing at Achill Island (later also the subject of Heinrich Böll's 'Ireland and its Children'), on the north-west coast of Ireland. Nath's main interest in Ireland, who had already made public appearances before the war with short films and during the war with contributions to German newsreels, was nature, as he told the Irish Foreign Office: 'We want nature - untouched nature. Something we no longer have in our overpopulated country'. In the same year, Nath released two more short films, 'Mist over Donegal' and 'Where the Paths End', which also show the Irish Atlantic coast.
