Description: 16mm Film - The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T. - USA 1953 (Excerpt 3) Directed by: Roy Rowland Written by: Dr. Seuss alias Theodor Seuss Geisel and Allan Scott Cinematography by: Frank Planer alias Franz F. Planer Music by: Frederick Hollander alias Friedrich Hollaender Starring: Peter Lind Hayes, Mary Healy, Hans Conried, Tommy Rettig, Jack Heasley alias John Heasley, Robert Heasley, Noel Cravat, George Kerris alias George Chakiris, Tony Butala, Henry Kulky, Alan Aric, Kim Charney, Diki Lerner, Luigi Faccuito et al. It's a tough time for eleven-year-old Bartholomew Cullins (Tommy Rettig), whose mother wants to make a world-class pianist out of him, which is why he has to waste the afternoon hours with endless piano exercises, because his teacher is Dr. Terwilliker (Hans Conried), who is almost obsessive in his eyes and drives him on with sadistic glee. Only the plumber August Zabladowski (Peter Lind Hayes), who works in the house, provides him with some variety, but the exercises are unavoidable and Bart falls asleep again and again, sinking into fantastic dreams. He promptly dreams himself into a fantastic world in which the satanic pianist and hypnotist Dr. T. has concocted a plan to have 500 kidnapped children play his compositions on a special piano for 5000 fingers and Bart is his first victim, not to mention Bart's mother, who is already under Dr. T's spell and is supposed to marry him. Before the remaining 499 children arrive, Bart wants to save the world and his mother from Dr. T's clutches and how good that even sinister piano teachers have drains and pipes in their fortresses that need to be maintained - and Bart thus gains an ally in the fight... How can we be friends again? >> Well, you could start by taking out those sinks. >> Take the sinks out. What good would that do? >> It would stop that crazy chiller from opening this place and my mom would be saved. >> Look, Bart, I already told you I wouldn't worry about your mom. >> You wouldn't, but I would. >> Look, partner, let's make sense, shall we? How can I start taking sinks out when I'm being paid to put the sinks in? Time and a half overtime. That's a lot of money. >> How much are you being paid over time? 2,000 pullers. >> 2,000 what? >> 2,000 pullas. Dr. T does not pay me in American money. He keeps that for himself. He pays me in foulas. >> What are pulas? >> If you must know, the currency here is a little strange. First of all, in the small money comes the draids. At the regular normal rate of exchange, there are 59 draids to one silverbeck. >> Lowbeck. >> Three silverbecks make one golden crotch. A pastula normally is uh 44,000 crotchs, but these they tell me are not normal times. So >> pastulas, crotch monks, how much do you get American? >> Precisely 20 bucks. Show me a better job and I'll take it. >> You will? >> Oh, sure, sure. >> IF I DID YOU 30 BUCKS, WOULD YOU TAKE THE SINKS OUT? >> OH, SURE, SURE. >> Can you shake on that? >> Oh, sure. >> MR. ZABIDOWSKI, YOU'RE WORKING for me now. >> Okay, boss man. >> I'm going TO GET YOU ALL THE MONEY YOU WANT. OH, NOW WAIT A SECOND. BART, COME BACK. I WAS ONLY KIDDING ABOUT THE MONEY. I DON'T CARE ANYTHING about money. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Down. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Mom. Mom. Heat.
