School Hero

what's up [Music] [Applause] guys [Music] foreign foreign [Music] [Music] better get yourself out in there okay you're shifting your way too much in that pitch Okay so so you'll give a report about a person in your community that you admire it will be a written report to be given orally in front of the class so think about your local hero who do you admire and why Mike before we answer any questions about the assignment you are going to the principal's office been like three times this week so you can explain it to Dr marks [Applause] [Music] I don't think I've ever been in my office before Mike no why are you here well uh I guess I'm supposed to tell you how come I keep getting schooling all right go ahead I'd really like to know Mike I don't know is everything okay at home yeah are you having a tough time with some of the work no what about Mr Williams he's okay Mike I want you to understand something every student in this school is important to me I'd like to help you but I can't if you're not willing to talk to me I'm gonna have to give you detention for the day Mike as a reminder of the importance of being on time [Music] [Music] and this is just one example of how a know baseball skateboarding TV well that's a good start take a look at some of the people who are involved in the kinds of things that you like to do but you got to keep your eyes open now gotta look at the local news look at your headlines talk to your neighbors all right uh listen Mike the truth is if you don't come through with this report you may not pass social studies and you're not doing so hot in your other subjects either [Applause] [Music] [Music] okay foreign [Music] [Music] I'm in trouble for being late huh yeah just detention how do you go about shifting your weight there's a few things in this world I know about how do you know about baseball oh that's a long story well I gotta go get a few things together downstairs so I can get out of here today can I come oh there's not much down there you'd be interested in maybe you can teach me some more about baseball I guess I don't see why not is that you a long time ago come minor leagues foreign no no I don't know oh no look you know I was just being picky this morning about you shifting away I mean you look pretty good and that you can make little league if you wanted Maybe I could well and if you want to then you gotta try it right oh maybe you don't want it bad enough huh it's funny yeah I remember when I was first starting out well I live breathe and ate baseball I made a minus that's awesome to make the majors and that's when I hurt my arm couldn't pitch anymore couldn't play ball but I do know one thing I know that I went as far as I could it's just my teacher's one of the Little League coaches he's got this wheel your parents have to be good enough to try out and mine are you're gonna let that keep you off the team I'm no good in school all right maybe uh maybe I'll make you a deal what kind of a deal you get those grades up and I'll coach you so if you're ready for the next Little League tryouts it sounds great but no way no you can't hey you work at it you can agree I don't know what to say in class I feel like I can't do anything right you haven't even tried correctly imagine an offer think about it where you going now we're gonna cut today it's not gonna be that easy got a book report we've got a map to I cut off slow who cares what's more important unless you're some stupid math quiz you could probably talk about anything to let him make it up I don't know Billy maybe it's not such a cool idea maybe you're not such a cool idea What's it gonna be okay all right come on all right everyone please get back forget to write your name the top there you go so what happened this time oh not a big deal stupid come on in hey man I'm glad to stop by um I was thinking about our talk yeah me too I didn't actually tell you the truth about why I had intention I could yeah well um I didn't exactly tell you something either what see when I was your age I hung out with the wrong crowd and um I never finished school who cares you play ball you did with your money yeah I know that's what I thought too first but you know once I was hurt how many guys I didn't know anything except baseball I thought I was like you know some big shot there's better things to do than going to school but then once my baseball career ended well I just weren't too many jobs around for a guy who only knows baseball what would you do I took this job see um I don't really ride too well that's okay well you know I just thought you should know come on spit it out I I want to take you up on your offer uh I'm gonna try to make tea oh so you're up for it now huh I guess so no guestsos you're either in this 100 for your app yeah I mean [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you all right as you all know we have a math quiz today I can already tell we didn't study there you go go let's go all right you're really coming along like much better hey [Music] much better what's wrong with me here nothing I'm turning this little nerd or something no it seems like it's me why are you hanging around with Joe because he's great he used to play pro ball and I'm doing my hero Reborn good work today kid so how's school coming along I'm trying Joe I really am this hasn't been that easy nobody ever said it was gonna be easy yeah I'm not from Philly he gets mad at me and I don't do stuff with him anymore and sometimes I'd rather do stuff with Billy after school instead of doing my homework when I get all the time with your homework it's gonna last forever get with it I'm telling you it's gonna be worth it maybe what if I do all this work and I don't make the team well that'd be pretty disappointing but you gotta remember it you don't wasting your time kid you're learning I guess so thanks John I like doing it I don't want to listen as a friend I understand [Music] figures everybody says you're the biggest group in the school you're the one I'm feeling you're just a quitter you don't even try you don't know nothing foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign jealous not a hero just because he was a baseball player but because he cares he took his own time to coach me and he's been a real friend no matter what he's a guy who believes that you should never stop trying do the best you can in everything and stick to what you know is right no matter what anybody else says and I know these things are true about him because he talking to him terrific job Mike that's one of the best I've ever heard [Music] thank you foreign [Music]
