Es kommt dabei zum Streit, die Kinder müssen ins Bett und die Eltern bleiben wortlos zurück. Der Vater, Zigarre rauchend und Bier trinkend, verkündet die Spielregeln. 'Es kommt darauf an, möglichst günstig zu investieren...' Obwohl die Kinder offenbar wenig Lust verspüren, Monopoly zu spielen, fühlt sich der Vater in seinem Element. Vor allem die kleine Tochter ist nur unwillig bei der Sache. Als die Mutter sie in Schutz nehmen will, wird sie vom Hausherrn angeherrscht: 'Halt Du dich da raus!' Die Stimmung wird immer gereizter, das autoritäre Verhalten des Vaters führt schließlich zum Streit mit dem Sohn, der zu allem Überfluss auch noch Vaters Bierglas verschüttet. Damit findet das Spiel ein jähes Ende, die Kinder werden ins Bett abkommandiert, zur Melodie von Mozarts 'Eine kleine Nachtmusik' genehmigen sich die Eltern noch einen Cognac. Der Kurzspielfilm zeigt, teilweise realistisch, teilweise parodistisch überzogen, das Rollenverhalten in einer durchschnittlichen Familie. Das Familienspiel ist dem Vater nur Anlass, seine Rolle als Oberhaupt der Familie zu demonstrieren, die Mutter spielt die Rolle der sanften Vermittlerin, die Kinder werden, sobald sie übermütig werden, bestraft. Die Geräuschkulisse zu der Farce sind beliebte Fernsehsendungen wie 'Die Leute von der Shiloh Ranch', 'Das Wort zum Sonntag', 'Weltspiegel'. Das Freizeitverhalten der einzelnen Familienmitglieder spiegelt ihr allgemeines Gesellschaftsverhalten wider; 'so geht' s auch im Leben zu' meint der Vater zu dem 'Spiel'. A family is playing the board game 'Monopoly'. A quarrel breaks out, the children have to go to bed and the parents are left without a word. The father, smoking a cigar and drinking beer, announces the rules of the game. 'The important thing is to invest as cheaply as possible...' Although the children seem to have little desire to play Monopoly, the father feels in his element. The little daughter in particular is reluctant to play. When the mother tries to protect her, the man of the house orders her: 'You stay out of it!' The mood becomes increasingly irritable, and the father's authoritarian behavior finally leads to an argument with the son, who, to make things worse spills his father's beer glass. The game comes to an abrupt end, the children are ordered off to bed, and to the tune of Mozart's 'Eine kleine Nachtmusik' the parents enjoy another cognac. The short film shows, partly realistically, partly parodically exaggerated, the role behavior in an average family. The family game is only an occasion for the father to demonstrate his role as head of the family, the mother plays the role of the gentle mediator, the children are punished as soon as they get cocky. The soundscape to the farce are popular TV shows like 'The Virginian', 'Das Wort zum Sonntag', 'Weltspiegel'. The leisure time behavior of the individual family members reflects their general social behavior; 'that's how it is in life, too,' is the father's comment on the 'game'.
