[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] four you see that type of speaker i still can't believe it but i'm going to be the only one to get a perfect 36 girls stars in a weekly project and listening is the easiest of them all i know everything they know about listening it's the most important thing in the whole world 36 gold stars and doing this make me know i'm so proud of you cynthia that it's best to be modest around your school friends it's too easy for them to become jealous good luck dear [Applause] do we know what it means to listen do we even know how to listen what do we do to be a good listener yes cindy well i think these are the rules of being a good listener first when listening i pay close attention you know there are distractions and second you should consider all parts of you and third show that you're listening it always helps the speakers they can see that [Applause] are you okay yeah [Applause] calm down everybody quiet please maybe we should go back to the beginning all right quiet everybody all right the first point was andrew why don't you tell us the first part of listening all right thurman would you tell us the first rules listen [Applause] i'm ashamed of all of you every one of you is showing you that you don't know how to listen we should do something about that any suggestions class yes well we can all practice listening all week long and lay ourselves in my papers on what we've learned and how well we fit and everything and the best christmas games that's a good idea we'll do that but let me warn you you think that listening is easy it isn't you think that listening means just not talking it doesn't listening can be very very hard sometimes it can even hurt because sometimes people have more plugging up their ears than just sermons earwax [Applause] he was a greek storyteller sophocles he said about somebody who couldn't understand things that he has eyes but he can't see it's just as true to say you have ears but you can't hear think about it and we'll talk more about listening on friday and by the way the first rule of listening was paying attention now everybody [Applause] well you guys aren't the only ones who were glad for last week [Applause] [Applause] [Music] no here's my practice [Music] with me [Applause] you no you're not my friend anymore you know why because uh what are you doing it's just the way you need exercise i've listened to your time for the little treat that's ridiculous it's really hard just to listen to the burden knocking out okay you can't do it of course i can't just like using what listen to the birds of the street people and try this okay [Music] i told you it was hard real other people it didn't work that way [Applause] come on no i do not like the ball come on you might i'll show you how jennifer you heard her she said she doesn't to play with all this right now you have to pay attention to more than just the words people say is how they say them cindy listen you care about what i said on monday i was angry okay do you need any help when you're with me you can do it together and take care of myself wow what a creepy [Music] so are you in here are you excited about the last day school yeah it's a wreck here good night my 36 gold star girl me [Applause] all right calm down everybody bye-bye please everybody everybody now about your final weekly project i read the papers during lunch and they're very good but one in particular is something really quite special first of all most of the papers have the same rules i'd like jamal to come up those rules for newspapers come on [Music] well i know that you should first pay attention so that you don't miss anything and second even if somebody is saying something you don't want to hear you should listen so that you get your point of view and third show your paying attention like asking questions and everything like that so the person who's talking knows you're missing and of course sometimes people say one thing will mean something else so you have to listen for more than just the words that things but most of all it's somebody's time to tell you something it's because what they want to say is just as important to them as what you have to say is important to you everybody has to be heard i guess um thank you everything jamal said is true and should be remembered now i said there was a remarkable paper the girl who wrote this doesn't want to read it herself but it won't be read unless she reads it the paper was written by luke so the words are old and were taught to me by my father it says this facing and hunting mattering the mind precious thing leaves one astray therefore keep your mouth closed listen and life becomes full listen dance and overcome stand and be straight empty and be full receive before you give say little and gang say much and be confused set an example to all not putting on this place shine forth therefore the ancients said for one who listens all things come their way [Music] [Applause] you try why did i trust him why i couldn't do it better stop trying so hard school's over okay oh that's the matter with me listening it's more than just following a bunch of words nothing wrong with me so this thing turned out to be kind of horrible actually i think it's not what your attitude is [Music] move in here [Applause] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
