Le garçon quitte l'école, rentre chez lui, nourrit son oiseau, sort avec une bouteille en verre et deux pièces. Le garçon voit sa mère marchant dans la rue, et va à un carnaval. Là, un kiosque de roulette offre le poisson comme un prix: un aquarium est approvisionné avec divers poissons noirs et un poisson rouge. Le panneau indique "REGLEMENT Chaque gagnant a droit à un magnifique poisson exotique". Il regarde avec envie le poisson rouge, et aux pièces de monnaie, mais ne place pas un pari (Un autre signe dit 20 F). Un homme plus âgé avec une barbe place son pari, et quand son pari gagne, il veut le poisson d'or, qui se cache dans les rochers. Tout en essayant d'obtenir le poisson, son bras frappe la bouteille du garçon, le brisant. L'homme donne au garçon deux pièces de monnaie comme une consolation. Le garçon place son pari (sur les cœurs), et gagne. Le poisson nage prêt dans le filet, et le garçon part avec le poisson rouge dans un sac en plastique. Plus tard, le chat suit les hommes avec les ordures, le garçon va à l'école, la mère utilise la pointeuse (l'horloge indique 8:37). Pendant qu'il est parti, le poisson saute hors du bol, tombant sur la table. Le chat noir entre dans l'appartement, retourne le poisson (à l'aide de sa bouche) dans le bol, et part tout comme le garçon revient, avec une plante à mettre dans le bol de poisson. The film, which has a musical score but no dialogue tells of a boy, a golden fish, and a black cat. The boy leaves school, comes home to his apartment, feeds his bird, and goes out with a glass bottle and two coins. The boy sees his mother walking on the street, and goes to a festival. There a roulette booth offers fish as a prize: an aquarium is stocked with various black fish and one golden fish. The booth's sign says "REGLEMENT Chaque gagnant a droit à un magnifique poisson exotique/les poissons ne sont pas rachetés" (Regulation: Each winner is entitled to a magnificent exotic fish/the fish are not redeemed [for money]). He looks longingly at the golden fish, and at the coins, but doesn't place a bet (Another sign says "20 F la partié"), and leaves. An older man with a beard places his bet on spades, but the wheel lands on 7. The boy comes back, now his bottle filled with milk. The older man bets on spades, 4, 5, 6, 7, wins a bet when the wheel lands on spades. He wants the golden fish, which hides in the rocks. While trying to get the fish, his arm knocks over the boy's bottle, breaking it. The man gives the boy two coins as a consolation. The boy places his bet (on hearts), and wins. The fish swims willing into the net, and the boy leaves with the fish in a plastic bag. Later, the cat follows the men with the garbage, the boy goes to school, the mother punches the time clock (clock reads 8:37). While he is gone, The fish jumps out of the bowl, falling on the table. The black cat enters the apartment, returns the fish (using its mouth) to the bowl, and leaves just as the boy comes back, with a plant to put in the fish bowl. In einem kargen Neubaukomplex wohnt ein kleiner Junge mit seiner Mutter. Morgens geht sie zur Arbeit und er in die Schule. Eines sonnigen Tages will der Junge nach der Schule Milch holen. Auf dem Weg zum Händler kommt er an einem Rummel vorbei. An einem Stand gibt es ein Glücksrad, bei dem man Aquariumsfische gewinnen kann, unter anderen einen Goldfisch. Der Junge ist versucht, das Milchgeld dafür aufzuwenden, bestimmt sich jedoch um. Auf dem Rückweg macht er dort wieder halt. Ein stämmiger Mann hat gerade gewonnen und möchte den Goldfisch haben, der sich jedoch nicht fangen lässt. Bei der Jagd nach dem Goldfisch kommt die Milchflasche des Jungen zu Fall, woraufhin der Mann den Jungen entschädigt. Einen Teil des Geldes setzt der Junge auf Herz und gewinnt somit den Goldfisch, der nun freiwillig in den Kescher schwimmt. Zuhause wird der Goldfisch in eine Aquarium neben dem Vogelkäfig platziert. Während der Junge in der Schule ist, ahmen Fisch und Vogel die Bewegungen des jeweils anderen nach, ein jeder in seinem Element. Hierbei trägt es sich doch zu, dass der Fisch bei einem Sprung aus der Schale fällt. Im selben Augenblick kommt die Hofkatze in die Wohnung und verzehrt sich nach dem Vogel im Käfig. Als sie den Fisch erblickt, ist sie nicht allzu interessiert. Kurz bevor der Junge nach Hause kommt, befördert sie doch den Fisch zurück in das Aquarium und verlässt die Wohnung.
