Der Film bringt die realistische Fallstudie eines jungen Alkoholikers. Der Hauptdarsteller Helmut ist auch im wirklichen Leben Alkoholiker. Die Filmgeschichte ist zwar mit seiner Lebensgeschichte nicht identisch, doch hat er seine eigenen Erfahrungen sehr stark mit eingebracht. Ebenso werden alle anderen Personen im Film von Laien dargestellt. Sie sind entweder auch selbst Betroffene oder haben beruflich mit Alkoholikern zu tun. Die Entwicklung des 18-jährigen Helmut zum Alkoholiker wird in Rückblenden nach einer 6- bis 8-monatigen Entwöhnungskur gezeigt, wobei Helmut die einzelnen Szenen als seine Geschichte kommentiert. The film is a realistic case study of a young alcoholic. The main character, Helmut, is also an alcoholic in real life.
