Der italienische Jude Guido erobert mit viel Romantik und noch mehr Humor das Herz seiner Frau. Doch als die Nazis das Land kontrollieren, ist auch für die glückliche Familie, die inzwischen einen fünfjährigen Sohn hat, die gute Zeit vorbei. Alle kommen in ein KZ, wo Guidos Sohn nur durch Zufall der Vergasung entkommt und daraufhin sich versteckt. Um der Entdeckung zu entgehen, spielt Guido mit seinem Sohn ein Spiel, nachdem man für Stille und gute Verstecke Punkte sammeln kann, um einen Panzer zu gewinnen. Doch die Situation wird immer ärger... Guido, an Italian Jew, wins his wife's heart with his romanticism and even greater sense of humor. But when the Nazis take control of the country, the good times come to an end for the happy family, who now have a five-year-old son. They are all sent to a concentration camp, where Guido's son only escapes gassing by chance and goes into hiding. To avoid discovery, Guido plays a game with his son in which they can collect points for being quiet and finding good hiding places in order to win a tank.
