Die filmische Darstellung orientiert sich vornehmlich an der Begegnung mit der in Lejre/Dänemark nachgestellten Kultur eines germanischen Dorfes, Zitaten des Schriftstellers Tacitus und einigen Exponaten aus Bodenfunden und Bildquellen. Karl Wiehn's film focuses on the settlement, economic, and everyday life of the Germanic peoples, as well as the distinctive features of the social structure and cultural practices of this ancient civilization. The film is primarily based on encounters with the reconstructed culture of a Germanic village in Lejre, Denmark, quotations from the writer Tacitus, and several exhibits from archaeological finds and pictorial sources.
