At the end of the first century, an Inuit tribe lives in the Canadian Antarctic. He is cursed by a foreign shaman, causing greed for power, jealousy and rivalry to spread among the tribe. First, the devious Sauri (Eugene Ipkarnak) asserts himself against Tulimaq (Felix Alaralak) as the new tribal leader after the old chief is murdered. Tulimaq, who is subsequently humiliated, has two sons: Amaqiuaq (Pakak Innuksuk) and Atanarjuat (Natar Ungalaaq), who have been enemies with the tribal leader's son Oki (Peter-Henry Arnatsiaq) since childhood. In the battle for the beautiful Atuat (Sylvia Ivalu), Atanarjuat defeats Oki. Oki takes revenge years later by killing his brother Amaqjuaq in his sleep. Atanarjuat flees from his pursuer and leaves his family behind...
