Description: 16mm Film - At the Pet Shop - Speak Out - BRD 1971 Script and Direction: Nigel Whittaker Camera: Peter Koop Cast: Barbara New, Elvi Hale, and others. 'Speak Out', produced by Radio Bremen in 1971 with English actors, was the second English language course on German television after 'Walter and Connie' (1963, with Anne Lawson and Brian McDermott). This episode shows real footage of a pet shop where a customer gets advice on buying a pet and where the boy Simon helps with animal care. The characters speak British English, generally at a slightly slower rate. After the first scene, which serves as an introduction, the viewer is asked in a second scene to repeat individual sentences to form a sentence structure according to the pattern 'I like them best, because they're so quick'. In a third scene, the viewer is led to form sentences themselves in which animals are described and compared.
