Amy feels lonely and unwanted in her new surroundings and misses her mother. But 16 abandoned goslings, who make Amy their foster mother, and the project to guide the adult migratory birds to a nature reserve in southern Carolina in the fall, bring Amy and her father together and bring the story to a happy ending.
